Wood Stove Repair in Thousand Oaks
Rust streaks on a stovepipe, water dripping into the firebox, a stain on the ceiling where the chimney goes through: wood stoves leak too. We repair the stove and seal the path water took to reach it.

What's Included
A wood stove's chimney passes through the roof at a flashing and storm collar, and when that seal ages, water runs down the pipe into the attic and ceiling. We trace the leak, reseal or replace the roof penetration, cap the pipe and replace rusted sections with listed parts. Inside the stove we replace worn gaskets, cracked firebrick, warped baffles and damaged glass.
Where Water Reaches a Wood Stove
A freestanding wood stove usually vents through a metal chimney that runs up through the ceiling, the attic and out through the roof. That chimney passes through the roof at a flashing called a roof jack or storm collar, and that joint is where most wood stove leaks start. The storm collar is a band clamped around the pipe above the flashing to shed water, and its seal ages in the sun. When it fails, water runs down the outside of the chimney pipe into the attic and shows up as a stain on the ceiling around the pipe. Rain can also come straight down an uncapped pipe and drip into the stove, leaving rust in the firebox and on the baffle. Stoves set into an old masonry fireplace share every water weakness of that chimney.
We trace the leak the same way we do for any chimney: start with the stain, check the attic around the pipe, then go to the roof. A cracked storm collar seal, a lifted flashing or a missing cap are common finds. Each is quoted in writing before work. If the chimney pipe itself has rusted or the joints have separated, sections get replaced with parts listed for that chimney system, because factory-built chimneys are tested as complete systems. For the masonry version of this problem, see chimney flashing repair.
Stove Repairs: Gaskets, Firebrick and Baffles
Inside the stove the repair list is fairly standard. Door and glass gaskets flatten over time and let air leak in, making the fire hard to control. Firebrick inside the stove cracks and should be replaced when pieces break away. Baffles and secondary air tubes warp or burn through. Glass gets cloudy or cracks. Water speeds all of it: rusted bolts, damaged firebrick that soaked up moisture and then cracked when heated, a corroded baffle. We replace worn parts with ones made for the stove's model where we can find them and tell you if a stove has reached the point where replacement makes more sense.
A wood stove's chimney needs sweeping like any other, and creosote builds up faster in a stove pipe if the stove is often run low and smoky. A yearly check and sweep keeps the stove safe and gives us a look at the roof penetration before the rains. Our chimney sweep visit starts from $210. If your stove is in a mountain or canyon setting with wildfire exposure, a cap with a spark arrestor screen is worth having, and our chimney cap installation page explains the options.

CA
Wood Stove Repair in Thousand Oaks
Tile roofs are everywhere in Thousand Oaks, and they make chimney leaks harder to spot because the tiles hide the flashing underneath. Many calls here start with a ceiling stain beside a stucco chase, and the cause is often a flat, rusted chase cover holding water at the top. Brick chimneys on the hillside streets more often leak at the counter flashing.

Wood Stove Repair in Camarillo
Camarillo sits far enough from the ocean for warm afternoons but close enough for morning fog, so chimney metal here sees both moisture and heat. Galvanized caps and chase covers tend to show rust streaks sooner than owners expect. On the single-story ranch homes, the chimney often rises through a low roof slope where leaves and water collect behind it.

Wood Stove Repair in Oxnard
Salt air is the main thing working on chimneys in Oxnard, especially in the neighborhoods closest to the harbor and the beaches. It corrodes galvanized caps, rusts flashing fasteners and eats through steel chase covers much faster than it does inland. When we find water in a firebox here, a corroded cap or a rusted-out chase cover is usually part of the story.

Wood Stove Repair in Santa Paula
Santa Paula chimneys deal with irrigation as much as rain. Sprinklers and orchard water hitting the base of a chimney can keep brick wet right through the dry months, and we often trace white stains on the lower courses to a misaimed sprinkler head rather than a roof leak. Brick stacks near downtown more often leak at the top, through worn crowns and open joints.

Wood Stove Repair in Ventura
Ventura gives us both kinds of chimney water problem in one city. Near the beach, salt air corrodes caps and flashing. On the hillsides above downtown, wind-driven rain hits exposed chimneys hard, and many brick stacks there were finished with a thin mortar wash instead of a true crown, which cracks and lets water into the core.
