What's Included

Damp pellets swell, bridge in the hopper and jam the auger, and a vent that lets rain in rusts the exhaust path. We clear jams, test igniters, blowers, switches and boards, and replace only what has failed. Then we check the vent from the stove to its termination cap and the seal at the wall or roof, so the moisture behind the fault is dealt with too.

Augers cleared and feed motors repaired
Igniters replaced, any brand
Combustion and room blowers serviced
Control boards and hopper switches tested
Vent cleaned and checked to its cap
Wall or roof seal checked for rain getting in

Moisture and the Pellet Stove

Wood pellets are compressed sawdust, and they hate water. A bag left in a damp garage, a hopper lid that does not seal or a few drops coming down the vent are enough to swell pellets back toward sawdust. Swollen pellets bridge in the hopper, jam the auger and burn poorly, leaving clinkers in the burn pot and a stove that shuts itself down. Many pellet stove calls we get start with a jammed auger or an error code, and the cause turns out to be moisture rather than a failed part. Clearing the jam fixes the day. Finding the moisture fixes the season.

The vent is the other water route. Pellet stoves vent through a sealed pipe, usually out through a wall and sometimes up through the roof. If the termination cap is missing or the wrong type, or the pipe was run without the slight slope that drains it away from the stove, rain and condensation collect inside. That rusts the pipe joints and the stove's exhaust path, and it can corrode the combustion blower. We check the vent from the stove to the termination and look for rust, loose joints and staining around the wall or roof penetration. Vent repairs and parts are quoted in writing. The nearby wood stove repair page covers the wood-burning side.

What We Repair on a Pellet Stove

Beyond the auger and vent, the usual repair list includes the igniter, which wears out after a number of seasons; the combustion and convection blowers, whose bearings get noisy and then fail; the vacuum and temperature switches that shut the stove down when something is wrong; door and hopper gaskets that let air leak in; and the control board. We test each part and replace only what has failed, using parts made for your stove's model when they are still available. A stove that keeps throwing the same error is telling us something specific, and the fix is to find out what.

Good habits prevent many of these calls. Store pellets indoors in a dry place, off a concrete floor. Keep the hopper lid closed. Empty the ash pan and scrape the burn pot as the manual says. Have the stove and vent cleaned at least once a year, more if you burn a lot. And if you see rust on the vent outside or water on the floor near the stove after a storm, call before the next season. If the stove sits in a masonry fireplace and vents up the old chimney, the chimney top needs a cap like any other, which our chimney cap installation page explains.

Pellet Stove Repair in Thousand Oaks

Tile roofs are everywhere in Thousand Oaks, and they make chimney leaks harder to spot because the tiles hide the flashing underneath. Many calls here start with a ceiling stain beside a stucco chase, and the cause is often a flat, rusted chase cover holding water at the top. Brick chimneys on the hillside streets more often leak at the counter flashing.

Pellet Stove Repair in Camarillo

Camarillo sits far enough from the ocean for warm afternoons but close enough for morning fog, so chimney metal here sees both moisture and heat. Galvanized caps and chase covers tend to show rust streaks sooner than owners expect. On the single-story ranch homes, the chimney often rises through a low roof slope where leaves and water collect behind it.

Pellet Stove Repair in Oxnard

Salt air is the main thing working on chimneys in Oxnard, especially in the neighborhoods closest to the harbor and the beaches. It corrodes galvanized caps, rusts flashing fasteners and eats through steel chase covers much faster than it does inland. When we find water in a firebox here, a corroded cap or a rusted-out chase cover is usually part of the story.

Pellet Stove Repair in Santa Paula

Santa Paula chimneys deal with irrigation as much as rain. Sprinklers and orchard water hitting the base of a chimney can keep brick wet right through the dry months, and we often trace white stains on the lower courses to a misaimed sprinkler head rather than a roof leak. Brick stacks near downtown more often leak at the top, through worn crowns and open joints.

Pellet Stove Repair in Ventura

Ventura gives us both kinds of chimney water problem in one city. Near the beach, salt air corrodes caps and flashing. On the hillsides above downtown, wind-driven rain hits exposed chimneys hard, and many brick stacks there were finished with a thin mortar wash instead of a true crown, which cracks and lets water into the core.
