Where chimneys in Ventura let water in
Ventura gives us both kinds of chimney water problem in one city. Near the beach, salt air corrodes caps and flashing. On the hillsides above downtown, wind-driven rain hits exposed chimneys hard, and many brick stacks there were finished with a thin mortar wash instead of a true crown, which cracks and lets water into the core. We keep that in mind on every fireplace inserts appointment, because a fix that ignores the local weak point tends to come back after the next storm.
